DESCRIPTION

Sodatec Tablet (Sodium Bicarbonate 500 mg) is an antacid commonly used to neutralize excess stomach acid, providing relief from conditions like heartburn, acid indigestion, and upset stomach. It works by reacting with gastric acid to form water and carbon dioxide, which helps to quickly raise the pH of stomach contents, reducing acidity. In addition to its use in digestive issues, Sodium Bicarbonate is sometimes used in other medical situations, such as treating metabolic acidosis in certain conditions, or as an alkalinizing agent in urinary tract infections. It is generally well-tolerated, but caution is advised in patients with sodium-restricted diets or kidney conditions due to its sodium content.

INDICATION

• Metabolic Acidosis : Sodatec Tablet (Sodium Bicarbonate 500 mg) is used in the treatment of an excess acidic condition of the body resulting from many clinical conditions such as severe dehydration, kidney dysfunction, severe diarrhoea, heart problems, etc.

• Diabetic ketoacidosis : Sodatec Tablet (Sodium Bicarbonate 500 mg) is used in the treatment of a diabetes complication called Diabetic ketoacidosis, a condition of a buildup of acids (ketones) in the blood.

• Urine alkalinization : Sodatec Tablet (Sodium Bicarbonate 500 mg) is used for urine alkalinization which helps to increase the excretion of toxic substances from your kidneys.

• Indigestion : Indigestion is a condition characterised by stomach discomfort, such as a burning sensation, bloating, nausea, or feeling full too soon after starting to eat. By decreasing the amount of acid in your stomach, Sodatec Tablet (Sodium Bicarbonate 500 mg) treats indigestion and thereby provides relief from its symptoms. Sodatec Tablet (Sodium Bicarbonate 500 mg) also relieves excess gas by breaking trapped gas and allowing it to pass easily.

• Hyperkalemia : Sodatec Tablet (Sodium Bicarbonate 500 mg) is used to correct the blood potassium levels in hyperkalemia (Increased blood potassium levels)

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Sodatec Tablet (Sodium Bicarbonate 500 mg) acts as an antacid by neutralizing stomach acid. When ingested, it dissociates into sodium and bicarbonate ions in the stomach. The bicarbonate ions react with hydrochloric acid (HCl) in the stomach to form water (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2). This chemical reaction raises the pH of the stomach contents, reducing acidity and providing relief from symptoms like heartburn and acid indigestion. The release of carbon dioxide can also lead to belching as a side effect.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Drug-Drug Interactions : Sodatec Tablet (Sodium Bicarbonate 500 mg) may have interaction with antibiotic (doxycycline), pain killer (aspirin), anti-hypertensive (mecamylamine), NMDA receptor antagonist (memantine), anti-diabetic (chlorpropamide), anti-psychotic (lithium), diuretic (furosemide, bumetanide, ethacrynic acid), sympathomimetic drug (pseudoephedrine, ephedrine), CNS stimulant (amphetamine), anti-arrhythmic (quinidine, flecainide), potassium supplements, and corticosteroids.
