CEFUROXIME 250 MG TABLET

DESCRIPTION

Cefu-250 Tablet is a combination of (Cefuroxime 250 mg) is an antibiotic medicine that is used to treat bacterial infections of the lungs, nose, throat, ears, skin, soft tissue and urinary tract. Cefu-250 Tablet (Cefuroxime 250 mg) medicine is used alone or in combination with other medicines for treating bacterial infections. It is not effective against infections caused by viruses. Cefu-250 Tablet (Cefuroxime 250 mg) kills bacteria thus treats the infection. Cefu-250 Tablet (Cefuroxime 250 mg) is an antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including respiratory, skin, and urinary tract infections. It belongs to the class of cephalosporins and works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis.

INDICATION

• Pharyngitis/Tonsilitis : Pharyngitis and tonsillitis are infections that cause swelling and soreness in the throat and tonsils. If it is the infection affects both the throat and the tonsils, then it would be called pharyngotonsillitis. Cefu-250 Tablet (Cefuroxime 250 mg) is used to treat pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and/or pharyngotonsillitis.

• Acute bacterial otitis media : Acute otitis media (AOM) is a common bacterial infection of the middle ear in infants and young children, often following upper respiratory infections. Cefu-250 Tablet (Cefuroxime 250 mg), is a cephalosporin antibiotic that targets bacteria like Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae by inhibiting cell wall synthesis. Treatment involves antibiotics based on symptom severity, age, and risk factors, alongside pain relief and sometimes observation without antibiotics. Proper antibiotic use is crucial to prevent complications such as tympanic membrane perforation and chronic otitis media.

• Sinusitis : Sinusitis is the swelling of membranes that line your nose and surrounding sinuses. It is often caused by bacteria and sometimes, viruses and fungi. You may experience a stuffed nose and pain or pressure behind your eyes, nose, cheeks, or forehead. Cefu-250 Tablet (Cefuroxime 250 mg) is used to treat bacterial sinusitis and provides relief in three to eight weeks. 

• Bronchitis : Bronchitis is the swelling and irritation of bronchial tubes that regulates air passage in the lungs. Cefu-250 Tablet (Cefuroxime 250 mg) is used to treat bronchitis caused by bacteria. It is also used to treat a sudden worsening of chronic bronchitis (long-term inflammation of the bronchi) and subsequent episodes of bronchitis. 

• Urinary tract infection : An infection in any part of your urinary system (kidneys, bladder, ureters, or urethra) is called a urinary tract infection (UTI). UTIs are the most common infections in humans and women are at greater risk of getting this infection. UTIs are caused by bacteria and in some cases, viruses or fungi. Cefu-250 Tablet (Cefuroxime 250 mg) is used to treat urinary tract infections caused by bacteria.

• Lyme disease : Lyme disease is an infection caused by Borrelia burgdorferi. This infection is spread to humans through the bite of infected black-legged ticks that carries the bacteria. This condition can be treated in a few weeks by using antibiotics. Cefu-250 Tablet (Cefuroxime 250 mg) is used for the treatment of Lyme disease.

• Skin and soft tissue infections : Skin and soft tissue infections occur when the bacteria invade the skin and its supporting structures. Cefu-250 Tablet (Cefuroxime 250 mg) is used to treat all skin infections including abscess caused by bacteria. 

• Impetigo : Impetigo is a skin infection caused by bacteria that is more common in young children. It appears as red sores on the face, especially around your nose and mouth, and on hands and feet. Cefu-250 Tablet (Cefuroxime 250 mg)  is used to treat impetigo.

• Gonorrhoea : Gonorrhoea is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by Neisseria gonorrhoea bacteria that infects both men and women. It spreads during vaginal, oral or anal sex without using a condom or other barrier method. Cefu-250 Tablet (Cefuroxime 250 mg) is used to treat the gonococcal infection.

MECHANISM OF ACTION 

Cefuroxime 250 mg is to prevent the formation of bacterial cell walls. It attaches itself to particular proteins found in the bacterial cell wall known as penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). Cefuroxime 250 mg inhibits the latter phases of peptidoglycan synthesis, a crucial part of the bacterial cell wall, by attaching itself to these PBPs. The bacteria lose structural integrity as a result of this disturbance, which weakens the cell wall and causes cell lysis and death. A wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including certain types of Streptococcus, Haemophilus, and Escherichia coli, can be effectively combatted by Cefuroxime 250 mg. In comparison to first-generation cephalosporins, it is less vulnerable to beta-lactamases generated by specific bacteria.

Drug Interactions

Drug-Drug Interactions: You should avoid taking Cefu-250 Tablet (Cefuroxime 250 mg) with oral birth control pills, medicines that reduce gastric acidity (like antacids, omeprazole), immuno-suppressing drugs (mycophenolate or mycophenolic acid), medicines used for reducing uric acid (probenecid), and some urine glucose tests. Besides this, it also interacts with typhoid and BCG vaccines.

Drug-Food Interactions: Grapefruit juice and dietary supplements containing minerals like calcium may also work to dampen the effect of antibiotics.

Drug-Disease Interactions: Cefu-250 Tablet (Cefuroxime 250 mg) should not be given in the condition of colitis, kidney disease, patient planning for ferricyanide tests, patient on dialysis, liver disease, epilepsy (fits) and diarrhoea.

PRECAUTIONS

Several precautions should be observed when using Cefu-250 Tablet (Cefuroxime 250 mg). Patients with renal or hepatic impairment should exercise caution, as dosage adjustments may be necessary to avoid adverse effects. It's crucial to consider potential drug interactions, particularly with medications like bronchodilators, corticosteroids, and antibiotics. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult healthcare providers before using acebrophylline due to limited safety data.
