CEFPODOXIME PROXETIL 200 MG

DESCRIPTION

Cefotec-200 Tablet is a combination of (Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200 Mg) is an antibiotic medicine that is used to treat bacterial infections of the lungs, nose, throat, kidneys and bladder. Cefotec-200 Tablet (Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200 Mg) medicine is used alone or in combination with other medicines for treating bacterial infections. It is not effective against infections caused by viruses. Cefotec-200 Tablet (Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200 Mg) kills bacteria thus treats the infection.

INDICATION

• Bronchitis : Bronchitis is the swelling and irritation of bronchial tubes that regulate airflow in your lungs. Cefotec-200 Tablet (Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200 Mg) is used to treat bronchitis caused by bacteria.Cefotec-200 Tablet (Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200 Mg) used to treat symptoms of chronic bronchitis (a long-lasting form of bronchitis) and subsequent episodes of bronchitis. 

• Cystitis : Cystitis is the swelling of the urinary bladder usually caused by a bacterial infection. Cefotec-200 Tablet (Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200 Mg) is used to treat cystitis caused by E.coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and other bacteria. 

• Gonorrhoea : Gonorrhoea is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by Neisseria gonorrhoea bacteria that infects both men and women. It spreads during vaginal, oral or anal sex when protection is not used. Cefotec-200 Tablet (Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200 Mg) is used to treat gonorrhoea.

• Community-acquired pneumonia : Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) refers to pneumonia (lung infection) that is caught in a community setting. It does not happen in a hospital, nursing home, or other healthcare centres. CAP can be caused by bacteria or viruses. Cefotec-200 Tablet (Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200 Mg) is used to treat CAP caused by bacteria.

• Sinusitis : Sinusitis is the swelling of the tissues of your sinuses. Sinuses are hollow spaces located behind your nose and cheekbones, between your eyes and at the lower end of your forehead. It is often caused by bacteria and sometimes by viruses and fungi. Cefotec-200 Tablet (Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200 Mg) is used to treat bacterial sinusitis. 

• Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis : Pharyngitis and tonsillitis are infections that cause swelling and soreness in the throat and tonsils. Cefotec-200 Tablet (Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200 Mg) is used to treat pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and pharyngotonsillitis (infection affecting both the throat and the tonsils).

• Skin and soft tissue infections : Skin and soft tissue infections occur when the bacteria invade the skin and its supporting structures. Cefotec-200 Tablet (Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200 Mg) is used to treat all skin infections including abscesses caused by bacteria.

• Acute bacterial otitis media : Otitis media (AOM), is an infection of the middle ear (the area behind the eardrum), common in infants and young children. Cefotec-200 Tablet (Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200 Mg) is used to treat acute otitis media caused by bacteria.

• Pyelonephritis : Pyelonephritis is the swelling of the kidneys due to bacterial infection. This infection starts in your urethra or bladder and spreads through the ureters to the kidneys. Cefotec-200 Tablet (Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200 Mg) is used to treat pyelonephritis.

MECHANISM OF ACTION:

Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200 Mg : Cefpodoxime Proxetil is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. Specifically, it binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) in the bacterial cell wall, blocking the final transpeptidation step necessary for peptidoglycan cross-linking. This disruption weakens the cell wall and results in the bacterial cell's rupture. Cefotec-200 Tablet (Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200 Mg) is effective against a broad spectrum of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Drug-Drug Interactions: Cefotec-200 Tablet (Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200 Mg)  may interact with diuretics (furosemide), blood thinner (warfarin), supplements (calcium/vitamin D), antacids (sodium bicarbonate, aluminium hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, cimetidine, ranitidine, loratadine), and drugs used to treat excess uric acid (probenecid). 

Drug-Food Interactions: No interactions found/established.

Drug-Disease Interactions: Inform your doctor if you have clostridium difficile-associated diarrhoea (CDAD), colitis (inflammation in the lining of the colon), seizures (epilepsy), kidney or liver disease.

PRECAUTION

Do not take Cefotec-200 Tablet (Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200 Mg) if you are allergic to Cefotec-200 Tablet or any antibiotics. Before taking Cefotec-200 Tablet (Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200 Mg), let your doctor know if you have/had inflammation in bowel, kidney or liver problems. Consult a doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Avoid alcohol consumption while taking Cefotec-200 Tablet (Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200 Mg) to prevent unpleasant side effects. Cefotec-200 Tablet (Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200 Mg) may cause dizziness, so be cautious while driving.
